I Birgit Sparres fotspår 1
Birgit Sparres park
Börja turen i centrala Ulricehamn.

Capture the spirit of the Christmas season with a treasured Kalamazoo tradition. Since 1970 the Kalamazoo Bach Festival has rung in the holiday season in the serene yet festive setting of Stetson Chapel. On Sunday, December 2nd, at 4:00 p.m. in Stetson Chapel on the campus of Kalamazoo College, the Bach Festival Chorus will present its annual BachFest Christmas! concert featuring works by Bach, Handel, Mendelssohn, and more. Lyric soprano Rhea Olivaccé will make her Kalamazoo debut with a performance of "O, Holy Night" and as the featured soloist in Moses Hogan’s "Glory to the Newborn King." Familiar carols and an audience sing-along complete this often sold-out concert and much beloved family holiday tradition.
The first half of the concert will feature J.S. Bach’s Magnificat with soloists, chorus, and orchestra under the direction of Maestro James Turner. Guest soloists for this piece are Emily Bennett, Giles Simmer and Kaitlin Spencer, sopranos; Sandra Maytan, mezzo-soprano; Steve Martin, tenor; and Marcus Jordan, baritone.
In the second half of the program, audience members will be treated to several holiday favorites as the choir performs selections of joyous seasonal music and the audience is invited to sing along with traditional Christmas carols. Featured soloists in the second half of the concert include Rhea Olivaccé, soprano, and Carl Witt, piano.
The festive refrains of familiar carols and other seasonal music will be a wonderful gift to share with friends and family as the holiday season approaches. Lovely poinsettias decorate Stetson Chapel for this holiday concert. This year ticket purchasers may help make the chapel even more festive by sponsoring a poinsettia. Tickets for BachFest Christmas! are available through the Bach Festival office (269-337-7407) or online through the Bach Festival’s website www.kalamazoobachfestival.org. This concert frequently sells out so purchase propecia

HISTORY OF THE BACH FESTIVAL SOCIETY:
One of Kalamazoo’s oldest musical organizations, the Kalamazoo Bach Festival Society was founded in 1946 by Henry Overley, Professor of Music at Kalamazoo College, who wanted to bring "town and gown" together to experience the joy of making music and to create something sublime — in particular, to recreate the choral and instrumental music of J. S. Bach and his contemporaries. Participants included visiting artists, local professional musicians, college and high school students, and many amateur performers. A performance of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion inaugurated the Festival in March 1947. In its early years, the season consisted of a Christmas concert and a spring festival week, featuring many distinguished guest artists. In the past 65 years, the Society has grown and expanded, due to the active involvement of the community: now year-long, it includes middle and elementary school outreach, Bach Legacy Lectures, a "Bach-Around-the-Block" organ crawl, a Young Vocalist Competition and Concert, a High School Choral Festival, master classes for young singers, the annual sing-along Bach Community Chorale, a Bach’s Lunch concert, and performances with the Kalamazoo Symphony, as well as our traditional Christmas concert and gala finale concert. The Society’s repertoire has expanded to include not only the music by Bach and his contemporaries, but also modern composers of the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. The Bach Festival Society concludes its season each year with the performance of a major symphonic choral work of Bach or another master composer (Bach’s B Minor Mass in 2003 and 2007, St. John Passion in 2012, and Cantata No. 71 in 2010, Mendelssohn’s Elijah in 1998, Mozart’s Requiem in 1999 and 2006, Solemn Vespers in 2004, and C Minor Mass in 2011, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass in 2000 and 2009, Brahms’ German Requiem in 2002, Handel’s Messiah, Parts II and III in 2005, and Rachmaninoff’s Vespers in 2008). Its mission is to bring together people of all ages and diverse backgrounds and provide them with an opportunity to experience the joy of making music by performing some of the best works in the choral repertoire.
Mission: The mission of the Kalamazoo Bach Festival is to bring excellent vocal, choral and instrumental music to the widest possible audience in southwest Michigan through performances of major works by the Bach Festival Chorus and orchestra, the sponsorship of renowned vocal artists and choral groups and educational outreach activities. The Kalamazoo Bach Festival focuses on the music of J. S. Bach and composers from the Renaissance to the contemporary era.
2012-13 Kalamazoo Bach Festival events are made possible by Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo, Arts Fund of Kalamazoo County, Burdick-Thorne Foundation, H.P. and Genevieve Connable Fund, Dorothy U.
